What better way to kick off May the 4th – commonly known as Star Wars Day – with workers striking back against malignant forces.
But we’ll get to that soon.
If Star Wars taught us nothing else, it’s that banding together wins in the end. Unions across Australia took that theme and ran with it today.
Cbus super fund started with a classic take. Retirement plans in the far reaches of the Galaxy look pretty sketchy. But thanks to the union movement, workers in Australia have superannuation they can rely on at the end of their careers.
This Star Wars Day – and everyday – no one should have to be treated like a clone or robot at work. That is exactly why the NSW Nurses & Midwives Association is making sure that workers have the correct PPE.
And if you don’t know what a Health and Safety Representative is, you should join your union.
The Australian Services Union have let us know that no matter if you’re employed in the Death Star’s library or working with Darth Vader through his issues as a counsellor, your union is always there for you.
And finally, can we please have a massive round of applause for the teachers? They not only went on strike today to demand better wages and conditions but also managed to produce some stellar pop culture references.
You know what? Come over here, Yoda has something to say to you.
